On the second day of all-party delegation’s visit to Kashmir, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today briefed the media on the condition of the Valley and clearing the air about four members of the delegation meeting Hurriyat leaders.
Singh asserted that the delegation would meet only those who want normalcy in the Valley. Situation in Kashmir has improved I believe and there are no second thoughts about the fact that Jammu and Kashmir was, is and will continue to be a part of India, said Singh.
Talking about the four leaders who broke away from the delegation in order to speak to the Huriyat leaders, the Home Minister said, ” Some members of the delegation went to meet the leaders of Hurriyat. You all know what happended after that, so I won’t go into the details. But we neither agreed nor did we disagree for it. However, all I can say is, that by not talking to our leaders, those people did not show any Kashmiriyat or Insaniyat in such a case,” added the Home Minister.
Singh further elaborated about PAVA shells, the alternative to pellet guns. “When I came here in July, people had complained about pellet guns. I had then ordered a committee to be formed in this regard. The committee came up with an alternative non-lethal weapon. The use of PAVA shells won’t kill people. I was also told that students of Kashmir were unable to attend school or colleges due to the prevailing violence. I hereby give you the number of the concerned person who will be looking into this matter,” says Singh.
