Beleaguered CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP Ritabrata Banerjee has spent a whopping Rs.69.25 lakh on travel expenses, according to Times Now report. While CPI leader D Raja refused to comment on the issue, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari chose to put the blame on airlines for soaring ticket prices, the report says. This is not the first instance the spotlight is on Banerjee as he was suspended on June 2 by the Left party for three months over his lavish lifestyle. Before that on February 23, CPI-M had cautioned Banerjee over the raging controversy in the social media involving him.
Back then a senior CPI(M) leader told PTI, “His (Ritabrata) lifestyle is unlike that of a communist. We have received a lot of complaints. He has been suspended for three months.” A three-member internal inquiry committee has been set up by the party to look into the allegations, details of which were not yet known. The panel will submit its report to the CPI(M) state committee within the next three months, the leader said.
Earlier in this year, after a party member raised questions on Banerjee using costly gadgets like an Apple watch and Mont Blanc pen, the MP allegedly wrote to his employer complaining against him. Banerjee had made his stand clear before the State Committee of the party.

CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury then said that the party would soon come up with guidelines on the use of social media both at the state level and national level on matters relating to the party.
