Indian student in NYU suffers brain haemorrhage, Sushma Swaraj rushes to rescue

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj while addressing the media today ensured that parents of the New York University (NYU) student Debarpan Mukherjee who has been admitted in hospital because of brain haemorrhage will be provided help soon.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj while addressing the media today ensured that parents of the New York University (NYU) student Debarpan Mukherjee who has been admitted in hospital because of brain haemorrhage will be provided help soon. She said, “Have just learnt that Debarpan Mukherjee a student of NYU is in Hospital because of brain haemorrhage. We will ensure that his parents reach there at the earliest. Our Consulate in New York will provide all help.”

Earlier in the month the External Affairs Minister reacted onn twitter after the shooting of a 39-year-old Sikh man Deep Rai in the US and expressed her sorrow over the hate crime. She said, “I am sorry to know about attack on Deep Rai a US national of Indian origin. I have spoken to Sardar Harpal Singh father of the victim.” Revealing what the conversation was about, MEA Swaraj said, “He told me that his son had a bullet injury on his arm. He is out of danger and is recovering in a private hospital.” The man was shot outside his home in the city of Kent in Washington state on Friday by a gunman who shouted ‘go back to your own country’. The shooting happened when a stranger approached the victim and fired his gun, according to the Seattle Times. This is the third racist crime against Indians in just 2 weeks.

Prior to the shooting of the 39-year-old Sikh man, a 49-year-old businessman identified as Harnish Patel who had suffered bullet wounds was found dead outside his home in South Carolina. Swaraj had expressed her condolences to the bereaved family. Last month, two Indian engineers were shot at by a 51-year-old Navy veteran at a bar in Kansas. US President Donald Trump condemned the shooting in his first address before the Congress.
