PM Narendra Modi last week had written to opinion makers across fields comprising industry, cinema and sports seeking support for the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement, saying that it is the noblest service. Moved by the appeal, superstar Rajinikanth on Friday took to Twitter and extended his support to the movement. He said,”I extend my full support to our hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s Swachhata Hi Seva mission. Cleanliness is godliness.” Swachhata Hi Seva is a cleanliness movement by Centre under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Earlier this month, President Ram Nath Kovind had launched a nationwide campaign to resume the cleanliness by mobilising people’s support in the fortnight to October 2.
Earlier on Thursday, as per PTI report, officials said that Sachin Tendulkar, Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma are among several celebrities who will be part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet ‘Swachhta hi Seva’ campaign. As prime minister’s Clean India project completes three years, these celebrities have agreed to undertake ‘shramdaan’ (contribution of labour) and toilet construction. Besides Tendulkar, cine stars Akshay and Anushka, Nita Ambani, wife of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, will also lead the cleanliness campaign in Mumbai, officials said.
Moreover, two personalities from Assam, singer Papon and actress Madhurima have also agreed to be associated with the ‘Swachhta hi Seva’ campaign. Global Inter-faith WASH Alliance, founder Swami Chiddanand, will lead a cleanliness drive along the banks of the river Ganga in Rishikesh on September 25, official sources said, as per PTI report.
