Controversy has erupted after a hoarding featuring Sunny Leone was put up in Vadodara of Gujarat. The hoarding promotes a condom brand. It says, ‘Play this Navratri, but with love’, according to reports. Navratri is celebrated in Gujarat with lots of fervour and the hoarding has created a debate and sparked anger among locals. The hoarding, however, was reportedly removed last evening. So far no reaction has come from Sunny Leone in connection with the hoarding controversy. Meanwhile, locals have decided to approach the district collector and the mayor with a memorandum in this regard.
Recently, renowned hair stylist Jawed Habib had to apologise for a newspaper advertisement allegedly insulting Hindu Goddess Durga which was published in Kolkata earlier this month. In a video posted on a micro blogging site, Twitter, Habib said, “One of our partners released the advertisement in Kolkata without our permission. I have been working for 25 years. My only religion is scissors. Sentiments have been hurt and I apologise.” The advertisement featured a cartoon of Hindu Gods sitting in a salon with a caption: “Gods too visit Jawed Habib saloon,” as per The Indian Express.
A case was also registered against the hair stylist at Saidabad police station. A complaint under IPC section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) was registered based on a complaint by an advocate K K Sagar.
