Sukma attack in Chhattisgarh: From PM Modi to Rahul Gandhi, here’s how they condemned the killing of CRPF men by Maoists

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the Naxalite attack in Chhatisgarh’s Sukma today and said that the government is monitoring the situation closely. PM Modi said that the attack is ‘cowardly and deplorable’. In a major strike in Burkapal-Chintagufa area in south Bastar, the worst Maoist violence-affected district area of the state, 24 CRPF personnel were killed. The Prime Minister vowed that the sacrifice of the martyrs will not go in vain. Meanwhile, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi also offered his condolences to the families of CRPF personnel martyred in the attack in Sukma. He tweeted: “We salute the sacrifice&courage of our brave hearts.”

The attack on CRPF took place at around 12.25 PM. Bastar IG Vivekanand Sinha and DIG Sunderraj have also rushed for Sukma. The jawans reportedly belonged to the 74th battalion of the force. PM Modi tweeted, “We are proud of the valour of our @crpfindia personnel.” Modi also wished for a quick recovery of the jawans killed in today’s attack in Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi wrote: “This thoughtless violence will never succeed in weakening our resolve to fight forces of extremism.”

Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Spoke to Shri Hansraj Ahir (Minister of State for Home) about the attack in Sukma. Shri Ahir is going to Chhattisgarh to take stock of the situation. I am extremely pained to know about the killing of CRPF personnel in Sukma. My tributes to the martyrs and condolences to their families.”

Meanwhile, Anand Mahindra said that this is a national tragedy. He tweeted: “We must deploy the best equipment to defend them.The greatest weapon, however, is to ensure rapid social development.”

A jawan who was injured in the attack told ANI that attack was carried out by around 300 Naxalites. “First Naxals sent villagers to trace our location, then almost 300 Naxals attacked us. We also fired and killed many,” said CRPF’s Sher Mohammed who was injured in the attack. “They were around 300 & we were around 150, we kept firing. I shot 3-4 Naxals in the chest,” he added.
