Congress president Sonia Gandhi today blasted PM Narendra Modi at the CWC meeting where the roadmap to elevate Rahul Gandhi as the party president was announced. Sonia launched an all out attack on Modi government, accusing it of sabotaging the Winter session of Parliament on filmsy grounds. “Modi government in arrogance has cast dark shadow on India’s Parliamentary democracy by sabotaging Winter Session on flimsy grounds. It’s mistaken if it thinks by locking temple of democracy, it’ll escape Constitutional accountability ahead of elections,” the Congress president said.

Sources say Modi government is planning to have a truncated Winter session of Parliament of around 10 days starting from the second week of December. Sonia also alleged that Modi government is trying to “forcefully” change history of modern India by “erasing contributions” made by former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.

GST, Demonetisation

While addressing the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Sonia accused Modi government of being “ill-prepared” to implement the goods and services tax (GST) and said it was a “flawed” tax regime. “The Prime Minister had the audacity to have a midnight celebration in Parliament to launch an ill-prepared and flawed GST but today he lacks the courage to face Parliament,” Sonia was quoted as saying by ANI.

On Demonetisation, the Congress president said, “A year later, demonetization has done nothing but rub salt on the wounds of distressed farmers, small traders, housewives and daily workers.”

“The fortunes of a handful are being built by destroying the future of the poor and the oppressed,” she added.
