When Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani tweeted birthday wishes to Saral Patel, who had changed his Twitter handle to ‘Beta’ Saral after a public spat on the micro-blogging site with Irani earlier, she made his day. “Birthday greetings to @SaralPatel007, blessings from Auntyji,” she tweeted. The birthday boy immediately responded with his tweet, “This is politics with grace! Something which truly makes me proud to be a ‘Beta’ of ‘Dear’ Auntyji. #Respect.” Soon, others started tweeting, wishing Saral and praising Irani.

Earlier this year, Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani locked horns with Bihar Congress President and Education and IT Minister of State Ashok Choudhary on Twitter over the issue of National Education Policy (NEP). Choudhary tweeted to Irani, addressing her with a ‘dear’ and asking about the NEP. Irani, however, caught on to the ‘dear’ and asked him whether that was how he addressed women. Replying to this, Saral Patel tweeted to Irani, “@smritiirani Madam, Had you went to college/University you would know that its a common practice to address ppl as “Dear”. @AshokChoudhaary.” To which Irani replied, “Grammar theek karo beta.”
After she wished her ‘Beta’ happy birthday, Twitteratis started praising Irani:

Irani is no stranger to duels on Twitter. In earlier tweet battles, her opponents have included Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi.
