Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address over 10,000 students in the world's largest hackathon, 'Smart India Hackathon' today through video conferencing to aspire more than 10,000 students who wish to be young innovators.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address over 10,000 students in the world’s largest hackathon, ‘Smart India Hackathon’ today through video conference to aspire more than 10,000 students who wish to be young innovators. PM Modi took to twitter and said, “#SmartIndiaHackathon2017 showcases the skills & intelligence of our Yuva Shakti. It is a great occasion for learning & discovering.” Another tweet by the PM said, “I will interact with the youngsters this evening. It will be a very refreshing & extensive exchange of ideas. #SmartIndiaHackathon2017.” According to a release by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, the hackathon has been initiated with the aim to promote innovation and also to producing digital solutions to 598 problems.

The Smart India Hackathon 2017 is a new initiative by the Human Resourse Development Ministry, that has been started to promote innovation, out of the box thinking among young minds. According to an official statement, “The grand finale of Smart India Hackathon will start at 8 AM on April 1 and would end at 8 PM on April 2 at 26 different locations in the country with each location handheld by one department or Ministry.” The statement also said, “For the preparations of the finale, online trainings were given to students by approximately 2110 mentors appointed for the purpose. During the finale, the selected groups will be locked-in for 36 hours continuously and complete digital solutions for the problem statements through programming to create computer software or a mobile app.”

On March 31, PM Modi through his twitter handle informed about the hackathon and said, “The Hackathon will take place for 36 hours, from Saturday 8 am until Sunday 8 pm & will focus on issues identified by 29 ministries.” He also wrote, “Several young minds from all over India will take part in the Hackathon. It will be a great exchange of thoughts & ideas on many issues.”
