Sikkim Standoff: External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay, while addressing the media on the Dolkam Standoff between Indian and Chinese forces in the Sikkim sector, on Friday said as far as the questions related to deployment are considered, these are operational. He added the Indian government is dedicated to keeping citizens safe and made its stand clear in the statement that was released on Wednesday.

Baglay, whose tenure is about to end, added that India has already issued a statement two days ago, which said that India is committed to maintaining peace at the border.

Baglay further said even External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has earlier said that even China is committed to maintaining peace. While addressing the issue of international terrorism, Baglay said that India hopes that all the countries, who are concerned about peace, will help in fighting all forms of terrorism, reported ANI. “Hope all those countries that share our concern of menace of international terrorism will cooperate in fighting all forms of terrorism,” he was quoted saying.

Adding to his comments, Baglay said India will continue to engage with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels. “We will continue to engage with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels to find a mutually acceptable solution,” he said. However, he added that the government is prepared for action as it is its responsibility to ensure the security of its citizen and its territory.

Talking about the possibility of Hafeez Saeed joining politics, Baglay said it is a matter of concern as his hands are stained with the blood of innocent lives. “The person who has traded in bullets to take human lives, is he trying to hide behind ballot, that’s a matter of concern. It appears person whose hands r stained with blood of innocent lives, perhaps wanting to hide his blood stained hands behind ballot ink,” he added.
