Six persons escaped from the lock-up of the excise department after cops standing guard allegedly consumed alcohol at Motihari in East Champaran district on Wednesday. The youths were arrested by the district excise officials from three different locations near the Indo-Nepal border on Tuesday, as per Hindustan Times report. When the accused realised that the six cops, guarding them, had dozed off, they made their way for escape taking the advantage of darkness. The youth used their combined force to break the iron grill of a window on the first floor and then climb down a pipe to escape.
Interestingly, the Motihari excise superintendent Keshav Prasad said, that they don’t have an exact count on the number of IMFL bottles recovered from those youths, as per HT report. However, he maintained, that it was sheer negligence on the part of the SAP jawans and action will be taken against them.
Prahlad Mahto, Hemlal Mahto, Mukesh Patel, Amlesh Mian, Md Haroon and Saddam Hussain were arrested in Sugauli, Raxaul and Ghorasahan areas of the district, as per HT report. Cops had also seized 5 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from them. Police said that raids are being conducted to apprehend the youth. Bihar was declared a dry state in April 2016, the report said.
