In what looks like a discord between the top rung of Samajwadi Party leaders, the newly appointed state chief Shivpal Yadav on Wednesday said he will do whatever is asked of him by Mulayam Singh and shall accept his decisions graciously.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Shivpal reiterated that whatever he’ll do that will be first deliberated with Mulayam Singh and only then will it be acted upon. Calling him as ‘Netaji’, Shivpal asserted that all decisions by Mulayam will be welcomed by him.
Talking about his resignation, Shivpal said, “Netaji se baat karne ke baad hi kucch nirnay lenge (I will take a decision only after talking to Mulyam Singh). He further added that the people of the state are in full support of Mulayam Singh and the Samajwadi Party.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav stripped his uncle Shivpal of all important portfolios late on Tuesday evening after he was announced as the state chief by his father. The move on Mulayam Singh’s part is said to have sprung in order to placate his brother when Akhilesh removed his close associates from the cabinet.
Earlier, Akhilesh had removed chief secretary Deepak Singhal, a close aide of Shivpal, from his post without citing a reason. On Monday, the UP Chief Minister had removed two ministers- Gayatri Prasad Prajapati and Raj Kishore Singh on charges of corruption. Both Gayatri and Raj Kishore were considered close to Mulayam Singh.
In a letter to Shivpal, issued by SP general secretary Ramgopal Yadav, it was stated that he would strengthen the party with his hard work, thereby hinting that he was now the No.2 in SP hierarchy.
“SP President Mulayam Singh Yadav has appointed you as the president of the Uttar Pradesh unit. It is hoped that with your hard work, you will further strengthen the party,” said the letter.
