Praising the Centre for providing relief to flood-hit Tamil Nadu, the Shiv Sena on Friday said that the ruling dispensation should also provide relief to Maharashtra which is reeling under drought.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said the Centre is the guardian of all states and urged it to be forthcoming in providing aid to any state hit by calamity.

“The Centre is guardian of all states. Whenever there is such calamity in states whether it is Tamil Nadu, Odisha or Maharashtra. There is drought in Maharashtra; we have demanded Rs. 4000 crores for that. Whatever Chennai deserves it should get, whatever Odisha deserves it should get and whatever Maharashtra deserves we should get,” Raut told ANI.

“Close to 15, 000 villages in Maharashtra are affected by drought, government should help farmers,” he added.

According to reports, Maharashtra has already received Rs. 920 crores from the Union Government for rehabilitation of the farmers affected by drought.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who made an aerial survey of flood-hit Chennai yesterday, announced a relief package of Rs. 1000 crores for the state.

The flood situation in Chennai and its suburbs is improving as rain has taken a break since last two days except for the isolated showers.

However, as the problem of water logging persists, the rescue teams are reaching out to the marooned areas.

Road connectivity within Chennai is improving with the resumption of transport in a segment of the arterial Saidapet bridge that was inaccessible earlier.

Civilian flights will operate from the naval airfield at INS Rajali, Arkonam, 90 kilometers west of Chennai.
