Looking to emerge victorious in the UP polls, Congress today announced Sheila Dikshit as its face for the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh. "You can call her our CM candidate or the face of our elections, but we have chosen Sheila Dikshit ji to head our campaign," Congress said. After serving three terms in Delhi as Chief Minister, Dikshit will now head Congress campaign for UP. Thanking her party for giving her this opportunity, Sheila Dikshit said, "I want to thank the party high command for trusting me and giving me this responsibility. I will work hard to make sure that Congress emerges victorious." Congress also announced that it will form a committee for the UP polls that are scheduled to be held in 2017. The Committee Chairman will be Pramod Tiwari, and it will have several members, some of them being; Salman Khurshid, Rajiv Shukla, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Sri Prakash Jaiswal. The announcement comes amidst speculation that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also play a key role for Congress party in the UP polls. Dikshit is incidentally facing inquiry for her alleged role in a Rs 400 crore water tanker scam in Delhi. Congress, which has suffered a series of defeats after the 2014 poll debacle, is looking to make a strong comeback in the crucial UP polls. Incidentally, UP was the state that helped BJP bag a simple majority in the Lok Sabha polls.
