Sand Mining Row: Punjab Minister Rana Gurjit Singh’s firm involved in the sand mine auction

Justice J S Narang was given the probing authority to investigate the allegations raised against Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh in connection with sand mine auction, had recommended cancellation of the two mines.
Sand Mining Auction: After Justice J S Narang(retd), recommended cancellation of the two mines bagged by Kulvinder Paul and Amit Bahadur, the latest reports revealed by the Indian Express show that the company involved in the funding of sand mine auction in Punjab – RGS Traders Pvt Ltd., was incorporated by Irrigation and Power Minister and Congress leader Rana Gurjit Singh in 1992. Justice J S Narang was given the probing authority to investigate the allegations raised against Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh in connection with sand mine auction, had recommended cancellation of the two mines.
The documents filed with Ministry of Corporate Affairs(MCA) revealed that RGS Trades Pvt Ltd, when founded in 1992, was given the name Rana Funds and Investments Private Limited with the Registrar of Companies. Later, in 2003, the name was changed to RGS Traders Pvt Ltd. The MOU of the company had further substantiated all the evidence, as it included the name and signature of Rana Gurjit Singh and his nephew Rana Hardeep Singh, as reported by IE.
Responding to IE, regarding his association with RGS Traders Pvt Ltd., Rana Gurjit Singh said, the firm just shared a common registered address with his family-owned Rana Group of companies as one of the directors, Sukhjeet Singh Poonia, was his relative. However, another document submitted with the MCA pertaining to a shareholding pattern of the company in 2006 shows Rana Gurjit Singh holding shares in it. While 96010 shares are listed against the minister’s name, Rana Hardeep Singh is shown as having 2010 shares.” The Minister also added that he was not involved in any business dealings through any of his firms for the past 19 years.
