In an initiative to clean Mumbai, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar came together with the leader of the youth wing of the Shiv Sena and President of the Mumbai Divisional Football Association, Aaditya Thackeray on Monday to show their support for the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. On his part, appreciating their efforts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and acknowledged their effort. PM said that people will be inspired by his efforts. “The continued commitment of @sachin_rt towards a @swachhbharat is deeply appreciable. People across India will be inspired by his efforts,” he wrote. PM further congratulated Thackeray for participating in the cleanliness initiative.

The duo teamed up for a cleanliness drive programme along with a few volunteers, and sweepers of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). They cleaned parts of Bandra Fort in Western Mumbai yesterday night. Thackeray took to Twitter and posted a few pictures of their effort on the microblogging site. According to reports, he wrote in Marathi: “Our BMC sweepers work tirelessly day and night to keep Mumbai clean. Today, I and Mr Sachin Tendulkar@sachin_rt tried to give them a hand.” As part of the prime minister’s Clean India project, celebrities and other prominent personalities have agreed to lead cleanliness campaigns across the nation.

In another post, he wrote: “While cleaning up, realised once again that in terms of garbage, plastic and thermocol pose the biggest problems for Mumbai. It’s up to us to keep our city clean. Not littering and segregating garbage are solutions to keeping the city clean. I am grateful to @sachin_rt for joining me in this effort”.

Following the cleanliness drive, the former cricketer too took to Twitter and posted a video of him addressing the media. He captioned it by saying, “We each have to do our bit to keep #IndiaClean. So, pick a group of friends, a street, and together let’s #CleanUp India. #SwachhataHiSeva”

On Friday, south superstar Rajinikanth also extended his support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Swachhata Hi Seva” mission. In a tweet, the actor said, “I extend my full support to our hon. Prime Minister @narendramodi ji’s #SwachhataHiSeva mission. Cleanliness is godliness.”
