A day after Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar rejected claims that he was in the race for Opposition PM candidate to take on Narendra Modi in 2019, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav hinted the JD(U)-RJD-Congress grand alliance in Bihar may already have ended. However, as news channels started reporting about the hint which Lalu shared on Twitter, the RJD leader retracted.

Responding to Income Tax department raids in connection with alleged Benami land deals linked to him, Lalu congratulated BJP for getting new “Alliance Partners.” The RJD chief, who is also facing trial in the famous Bihar Fodder Scam case, tweeted: “Congratulations to BJP for new alliance partners. Lalu Prasad is not the one who would bend or feel scared. I will keep fighting against Fascist forces until my last breath.”

In another Tweet, Lalu clarified that the alliance was “unbreakeable”. “Don’t expect much. Alliance (Grand) is unbreakable. Now, we have to bring together other parties with similar ideologies. I am not scared of the government machinery of the BJP and neither, the government supporters.”

It should be recalled that talks of a possible break-up in the Grand Alliance have been doing the rounds for quite some time. Even as JD(U) and RJD leaders rubbished claims of the break-up in the alliance, the talks gained more strength after Supreme Court revived four Fodder Scam cases against the RJD chief recently. Lalu was also at the centre of a controversy when a TV channel exposed tapes showing Lalu allegedly talking to jailed mafia don Mohammad Shahabuddin recently.

On Tuesday, Income Tax department carried out raids on around 22 locations in Delhi and nearby areas on charges of alleged Benami deals worth Rs 1,000 crore linked to RJD chief Lalu Prasad and others. The officials of I-T department raided the premises of a few prominent businessmen and real estate agents in Delhi, Gurgaon, Rewari and few others. They also surveyed 10 official premises, reported PTI.

“People and businessmen connected to the land deal involving Lalu Prasad and his family are being searched. There are allegations of Benami deals worth about Rs 1,000 crore and subsequent tax evasion,” a senior official told the news agency.

In a series of tweets following the start of the raids, Lalu attacked the BJP for trying to “silence” his voice with the help of these raids. “BJP doesn’t have the courage to silence Lalu’s voice. If you try to silence Lalu, crores of Lalu would come forwards across in the country. I am not the one who can be scared with threats…RSS-BJP is scared of Lalu. They know that Lalu is exposing their lies, loot and Jumla, hence create pressure (on Lalu)”.
