The transfer of underworld don Chhota Rajan’s case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly miffed the Mumbai Police as former top cops have dubbed the shifting of the case as an insult to the capabilities of the state Police.

Former IPS officer Sudhakar Suradkar expressed his displeasure over the transfer of Chhota Rajan’s case.

“I definitely feel hurt that the capability of the Maharashtra Police and the Mumbai Police is unnecessarily being routed since they are as competent as the CBI,” Suradkar told ANI here.

He asserted that the CBI will be helpless without the Mumbai Police regarding Chhota Rajan’s case.

“Some of the Police officers from Maharashtra will be put at the disposal of CBI,” he added.

Former Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shamsher Pathan downplayed the handing over the Chhota Rajan’s case to CBI, saying there was no reason for doing so.

“Why did the Mumbai Police transfer all the case to the CBI? There is no reason behind that,” Pathan told ANI here.

Stressing that the move of transferring the case was not a good choice, Pathan said that the CBI was not made for such ‘petty’ cases.

“These are petty cases which are meant for the purpose of the Police station. CBI is made for some specialized cases, enquiries ordered by the Supreme Court and the High court,” said Pathan.

The former IPS officer also said that the CBI should revert their orders and hand over the accused and his cases to the Mumbai Police.

Citing the example of shortage of manpower in the investigating agency, Pathan added that the CBI had already said that they don’t have the man power.

“It is a reality that they (CBI) don’t have the man power. If the CBI starts working like a Police station then it is not a good thing,” he added.

The Maharashtra government has handed over all cases against the underworld don Chhota Rajan’s to CBI.

Underworld don Chhota Rajan had earlier alleged that ‘some members’ in the Mumbai Police have links with wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim and said he would keep on fighting against him.

Chhota Rajan, who was arrested in Bali on his arrival from Australia on October 25, was brought to Delhi early today morning by a joint team headed by CBI officials for facing trial in various criminal cases registered against him in Delhi and Mumbai.
