The fight to keep ''Amma's" legacy alive is now in full swing.
The fight to keep ”Amma’s” legacy alive is now in full swing. Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dinakaran, who is also the AIADMK Deputy General Secretary, is now the party’s candidate for the RK Nagar bypolls, which is significant because it is ”Amma’s constituency” and there had been much speculation about who will be the ”chosen” one. According to local reports, the AIADMK party’s press release confirms that the decision has been taken with Sasikala’s approval.
A confident Dinakaran addressed reporters today after the announcement and he exuded confidence about winning the RK Nagar bypolls. He has even stated that he will win by a margin of over 50,000 votes from RK Nagar!
He further asserted that DMK is the only political rival they want to oust and it is only for this reason that he has decided to stand there. He made it clear that the party is open to receiving support from any others. He reiterated that Amma’s schemes would continue to be implemented in the constituency.

The DMK has also announced its candidate N Marudhuganesh for the RK Nagar bypolls. DMK’s press release has confirmed this as well. In 2016 assembly elections, DMK’s candidate had been Shimla Muthuchozhan who had contested against former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
In 2011, Sasikala’s nephew had been expelled from the AIADMK by Jayalalithaa. However, he was re-inducted by Sasikala last month, after he expressed regret about his alleged anti-party activities. The rise of Sasikala and the re-induction of Dinakaran has taken place almost simultaneously within the AIADMK party.
As Jayalalithaa had represented the RK Nagar constituency, it is of political significance for the AIADMK to win this seat in the bypolls and keep the legacy of ”Amma” alive.
