Republic Day 2026 Parade, Celebrations Live Updates: India is celebrating its 77th Republic Day, marking the day the Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950. The Republic Day parade is currently ongoing at the Kartavya Path and will continue for about 90 minutes. The parade kicked-off with a grand musical celebration followed by Op Sindoor tableau showcasing India’s defence prowess with flypasts by Apache and Dhruv helicopters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Chief Guests European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are in attendance.

This year’s Republic Day theme is ‘150 Years of Vande Mataram’. The parade is showcasing India’s journey of development, its rich cultural diversity and its military strength. The programme includes a strong defence display, colourful cultural performances and eye-catching tableaux.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi before arriving at the Kartavya Path, visited the National War Memorial where he paid tribute to the country’s bravehearts. He also signed the ceremonial book.

‘Collective resolve to build Viksit Bharat’: PM Modi extends R-Day wishes

PM Narendra Modi extended heartfelt greetings on Monday morning to the entire nation for the Republic day 2026 through a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Best wishes on Republic Day. May this occasion add renewed energy and enthusiasm in our collective resolve to build a Viksit Bharat,” the PM wrote.

This year, about 30 colourful tableaus will be part of the parade, including 17 from states and Union Territories and 13 from central ministries. These tableaus will reflect India’s rich cultural diversity, from Assam’s tea gardens and Rajasthan’s forts to Kashmir’s valleys and Kerala’s Kathakali.

Traffic advisory in Delhi for Republic Day 2026

Meanwhile, Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory due to the celebrations. Several roads will be closed or diverted, and security will be tight across central and New Delhi. Commuters have been advised to plan their travel in advance and avoid central Delhi during restricted hours.

77th Republic Day 2026 Parade Live Updates: Unity, firepower and pride define R-Day celebrations

While the 77th Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path was anchored in the 150-year legacy of Vande Mataram, the spectacle also carried a strong imprint of India’s contemporary military resolve. Operation Sindoor emerged as a defining highlight along the ceremonial boulevard of the national capital.

The parade unfolded with traditional grandeur as President Droupadi Murmu took the salute soon after arriving at Kartavya Path in a classic buggy, accompanied by European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and flanked by the President’s Bodyguards. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, senior Union ministers, top military commanders, diplomats and officials looked on from the stands.

A striking display of India’s defence capabilities followed. The procession featured key weapon systems including the BrahMos supersonic missile, Akash air defence system, the ‘Suryastra’ universal rocket launcher, the Arjun main battle tank, Dhanush artillery guns and the Divyastra battery, underscoring the country’s growing emphasis on indigenous military strength.

Moments before the parade began, President Murmu conferred the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, on Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who made history last June by becoming the first Indian to set foot on the International Space Station.

Setting the cultural tone, nearly 100 artistes opened the parade with a vibrant presentation themed “Vividata Mein Ekta” (Unity in Diversity), using a rich array of musical instruments to reflect India’s pluralism and shared national spirit.

77th Republic Day 2026 Parade Live Updates: Centre announces 982 Medals, 125 for acts of bravery

The Centre on Sunday announced 982 service medals for personnel from central and state police forces, as well as the fire services, ahead of Republic Day. Of these, 125 medals are for gallantry, recognising acts of exceptional courage.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said many of the bravery awards have gone to personnel serving in difficult and high-risk areas. This includes 35 personnel from regions affected by Left Wing Extremism, 45 from Jammu and Kashmir, five from the North-East, and 40 from other parts of the country.

The list released by the Ministry includes recipients of the President’s Medal for Gallantry, the Police Medal for Gallantry, the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
