Rampal murder case verdict: Self-styled godman Rampal Dass was on Tuesday acquitted by the court in 2 rioting cases, India Today TV reported. “Godman Sant Rampal has been acquitted in the two criminal cases. He has been acquitted in the two cases (426 and 427). Its a victory of truth,” A P Singh, defence lawyer, was quoted as saying by Indianexpress.com. The two cases were registered against Rampal and 11 others in connection with the violence in which five women and a baby were killed. Indianexpress.com reports that Hisar court has acquitted self-styled godman Sant Rampal in two cases registered against him, after both eyewitnesses and the complainant turned hostile. The self-styled godman has been cleared of two charges — obstructing government servants from performing their duty and wrongful confinement of people.
Rampal was arrested in November 2014 after he holed up in his Satlok Ashram in Barwala, which is stretched across 12 acres, and thousands of his followers fought the police and paramilitary forces outside the gates before he was finally arrested.
The self-styled godman is accused in an 11-year-old case in which his followers had opened fire on villagers in Rohtak which killed one and injured several others. In 2014, standoff between Rampal’s followers and the police, continued for around a week which resulted in the death of six people. The standoff between Rampal and security forces came after court summoned him numerous times but he failed to appear each time.
