Dalit leader and Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale, while travelling from Mumbai to his hometown Sangli last weekend found that he was alloted the 2nd class AC seat. According to a The Indian Express report, Athawale got upset as he got the information and asked the ticket collector to take up the matter. He pointed out that a minister of his position is supposed to be provided with a first class AC seat. Athawale had to travel the 10-hour long journey in the second class compartment. Athawale later said that he wants to reach out to his Maharashtra colleague and Railway minister Suresh Prabhu regarding the inconvenience, The Indian Express reported.
The dalit leader was recently in the news for demanding the rise in reservation percentage of upper castes in the country. He said that the reservation should be increased to 75 per cent from the current 49.5 percent. That according to him will also accommodate the economically backwards classes from Marathas, Jats, Rajputs, Brahmins and Gujjars. He has reportedly said that he will take up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah.
