Amidst huge speculations that legendary actor Rajnikanth might step into politics and join the Bhartiya Janata Party, a source close to the Tamil superstar told Indian Express that there were no plans of joining the Narendra Modi-led party that is looking to solidify its base in the state. The Indian Express, quoted the source saying that Rajnikanth had “clear directions from Delhi”. He, however, told reporters that the superstar was planning to start a new organisation and had political plans for the future. Although, it was reported that the veteran actor has not informed his close aides if the organisation would be of a political nature.
The source said that joining the Narendra Modi-led Bhartiya Janata Pary might be the last option for the legendary actor. He said that Rajnikanth had been indecisive in the past and fears that joining the saffron outfit might now be a good idea as it might cause a large chunk of his followers to abandon him. Although, he said that the Bhartiya Janata Party was opposed to the idea of Rajnikanth launching a new organisation. Speaking to IE, he said, “They (BJP) also think it would be better to form a larger alliance in Tamil Nadu under the banner of Rajinikanth. He has clear directions from Delhi…”
IE reported the source to be among the top leaders that coordinated the district level office bearers of Rajnikanth’s fan clubs. These fan clubs together have in the past claimed to have more than 10 lakh members. The source further said that the veteran actor was making plans for the future when the state faced a vacuum in its top leadership in the absence of late CM Jayalalithaa and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi who he said had almost retired from active politics”. The source added, “He said it in his speech today — it was not his (politically) indecisive or confused words.”
