Superstar Rajinikanth could fly to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming week, sources close to the superstar told The Indian Express. “BJP contacted the actor on Friday to discuss a meeting with the Prime Minister. The details of the meeting have not yet been finalised,” sources indicated. Not just that, it has also been indicated that decisions have already been taken to discuss necessary steps to be taken in the coming months in connection with the expected announcement of launch of Rajini’s political outfit.
Indian Express reports that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Tamil Nadu unit has declined to make an official comment on the issue. A senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu told IE that he hopes factionalism in the AIADMK soon ends.
The popular view in Tamil Nadu’s political circles is that the BJP and Rajini will not make any official announcements till next month’s Presidential Elections. The source close to the actor told Indian Express that the meeting between PM Narendra Modi and Rajinikanth could be linked to PM’s meet with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, which took place on Friday. This meeting reportedly took place after the Centre’s outreach to the ruling faction of the AIADMK.
BJP’s Tamil Nadu General Secretary Vanathi Srinivasan met CM Edappadi K Palaniswami after a series of raids forced AIADMK to disown V K Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dinakaran. Both the BJP and the AIADMK said that the meet was not political in nature. Multiple sources have told IE that Sasikala had played an important role in opening a ‘cordial’ line between Tamil Nadu CM and the BJP.
Last week Senior Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu reached Chennai with a group of bureaucrats to review state reports. The Union Minister cleared schemes worth Rs 1,083 crore in a single day for the southern state. BJP hopes to form an alliance in Tamil Nadu with both factions of AIADMK and Rajinikanth, according to The Indian Express.
