Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has said that customers are at the centre of planning and implementation of railway infrastructure.
For Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, customers are the focal point of every initiative. According to a report in VC Circle, Suresh Prabhu has said that for him, while deciding on both planning and implementation of railway infrastructure, customers are the top priority. Adding that Railways are now able to provide help and services to passengers in real time, Prabhu said that for his ministry the mantra is to look at customers’ feedback. This he said, would help improve operations of Indian Railways. He also said that passengers’ safety and satisfaction was of paramount importance.
Prabhu highlighted the ministry’s efforts to retrofit all coaches and ensure timely infrastructure development. Prabhu also spoke of the ongoing project to redevelop stations. The plan is to redevelop 400 stations across the country. Indian Railways will then look to monetise the land and air space in these stations.
Earlier this year, the railways had signed a a pact for formation of joint venture companies with six state governments which include Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Telangana. The joint venture companies will be formed with equity participation of the ministry and concerned state governments. The minister, when asked about the upcoming budget for 2017-18, said that the budget would be a continuation of old ideas but also a reflection of how innovatively things can be done.
According to Prabhu all efforts are being made to ensure that “different compartments of the Indian Railways” are better “synergised”. Prabhu envisions an Indian Railways that works in a “unified manner” to give the best to ist customers.
