Ritu Agarwal, a passenger who was allegedly travelling in Mahakaushal Express, has claimed that she was robbed in the AC 1st tier of the train on May 5th. The passenger took to Twitter about the incident and alleged that suspect staff may be involved in the incident. Taking note of the allegations, Indian Railways replied from its official Twitter handle and asked Agarwal to provide the PNR and contact number. “Nightmare on Mahakaushal Express on May 5. Jhansi is an organised crime spot with passengers being robbed in AC 1st coupes,” Agarwal wrote on Twitter. “Indian Railways travel in UP, MP sector dangerous. We got robbed in Mahakaushal Express as it waited in Jhansi. Suspect staff involvement,” she added. When asked about the PNR, Ritu said that an FIR has also been lodged in the matter with Railway Police at Delhi’s Nizamuddin Railway Station.

Months ago, a gang of 4 suspected criminals had looted valuables worth lakhs of rupees of as many as 20 passengers on board the New Delhi-Patna Rajdhani Express. The incident took place at  Gahmar and Bhadaura railway stations of the Mughalsarai division that falls under East Central Railway (ECR) region. As per reports, the suspected robbers were later arrested by a joint team of Buxar (Bihar) and Mughalsarai (UP) GRP. A number of stolen goods, including stolen cell phones, wallets, ATM cards and ornaments were recovered from the suspects. The modus operandi of thievery had shocked the authorities.
