Rahul Gandhi’s impromptu and unplanned visit to Chennai to see Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at Apollo hospital has left everybody surprised. Not just the opposition, but Rahul’s own Congressmen are left wondering what’s up exactly. The Congress vice-president met the TN Chief Minister on Friday and left the city within two hours of landing there.
The AIADMK leader has been undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital since September 22 and after his visit, Rahul told the media that her health was “progressing”. He said “I came from Delhi to see the CM because I wanted to give my support and the Congress president’s support. The doctors say her health is improving and she is going to be all right. I want to give maximum energy to Jayalalithaa ji so that she gets well soon.”
While this could have been counted as a concern visit but considering the fact that even State Congress workers were uninformed about it, this comes as a shocker. State Congress chief S Thirunavukkarasar was also in the dark till the moment Rahul landed in Chennai.
The party is assessing the after-effects of Rahul’s visit considering their tie with DMK for the local-body elections. This might not go down well with DMK leader M Karunanidhi. In the past, Karunanidhi had asked Government to release Jayalalithaa’s pictures to end rumors about her health. While the agenda of Rahul’s visit is going to hang in the political air for a while, DMK-Congress association in Tamil Nadu seem to be under radar now.
