In a big blow to Congress, Rahul Gandhi’s close confidant, Jung Bahadur Singh has quit Congress and joined the BJP. Singh’s move came just ahead of the visit by BJP president Amit Shah to the state. Not only this but half a dozen pradhans, several panchayat members and Congress workers also took the membership of the BJP along with Singh. As per a PTI report, Smriti Irani confirmed the above saying, “They were anguished as they had devoted their time to the Congress believing that there would be development in the state under the party, especially under the leadership of Gandhi…But due to neglect and insult of the Congress workers, the party leadership in Amethi is leaving Rahulji.”

As per a report by One India, Union Minister of Textiles and Information and Broadcasting and party Lok Sabha candidate in 2014 from Amethi, Smriti Irani paid a visit to Singh’s residence to congratulate him. “His own trusted leaders are deserting Rahul Gandhi in his parliamentary constituency. This shows that party men are not happy with his style of development and Congress policies,” she said as per the report.

Earlier, in August, Ashish Kulkarni, one of Rahul Gandhi’s election managers and top aides, had also resigned as a member of the Congress Coordination Centre, as per an Indian Express report.
