To ensure the same misfortune does not occur again, Gandhi added, “I also emphasize the need to construct sea-walls and groynes in the vulnerable sea coasts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. I am certain that the Government will look into it and address these issues as top priority.”

Last month, Rahul Gandhi had visited places hit by the cyclone in Kerala that claimed 66 lives. He also raised his voice for a better early warning system in order to stop recurrence of such tragedies again. Addressing fishermen, the Congress leader said the state and Centre must learn lessons from the natural calamity. speaking to them, he said that when a tragedy happens, everyone should learn from it and avoid such incident in future.  A better system should be introduced for fishermen to warn those going to the sea.

He also said that just like farmers have the ministry, fishermen should also have the same which would look after interests. He also said that while the losses of the families of those who lost their lives are irreparable, the party would try to help them as much as possible.

The cyclone that had hit the coast of Kerala and Tamil Nadu claimed over 66 lives and also caused widespread damage part from leaving several fishermen stranded and missing. He had earlier paid floral tributes on pictures of those who lost their lives in the cyclone. He had also consoled the families and spoke to them.
