While addressing the media he talked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi giving relief to the rich and not the poor. He said, “PM has given debt relief to richest people in the country, why not for people who have built this country, the farmers.” He further added, “Inki (TN farmers) awaaz na Hindustan ki sarkar aur na hi PM ko sunayi deti hai. PM ki zimedaari hai ki inki baat sunein. (Their voices do not reach either the Indian Government or PM Modi. It is the responsibility of the PM to listen to them.)”

On March 29, while the loans of farmers in drought-hit Tamil Nadu was not waivered, their crop insurance was increased. When the issue was raised in the Rajya Sabha, Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce and Industry Minister said, “the government is absolutely sensitive and seized of the matter.” She further added that Union FM Arun Jaitly, Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti and Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh had already met with the delegations from Tamil Nadu about the state of the farmers.
