The man accused of posing as a delivery agent and raping a techie at her home in Pune has been arrested in the city’s Karve Nagar area on Friday, according to reports.
The incident took place on Wednesday when the accused man reportedly entered the woman’s society as a courier delivery agent. While the woman said that she had no expected courier delivery, he insisted she sign for it. The man then forcefully entered the home and sexually assaulted the woman.
According to police, the accused may have sprayed an unknown substance on the victim’s face before assaulting her. The accused then reportedly clicked a selfie on the woman’s phone, capturing part of his face and her back and left a message: “I will come again.” He also threatened to circulate her photos on social media if she reported the crime.
Police earlier detained two individuals in connection with the case.
Zone 5 Pune City Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde told ANI that an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. “The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Kondhwa Police Station. Around 7:30 pm on Wednesday, a man claiming to be a delivery agent entered the woman’s flat with a bank envelope. When she turned to retrieve the delivery pin, he closed the door and assaulted her,” Shinde said.
He added that 10 teams are investigating the case. Forensic experts were also called in to examine whether a substance had been used to render the woman unconscious.
