Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is likely to lead Congress party’s UP polls campaign and an announcement on the same is expected soon, reported India Today. According to the channel, Priyanka met Congress’ UP in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad today.
The meeting comes a day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi met Azad. Speculations have been rife for some time now on whether Priyanka will Congress’ face for the upcoming state polls in Uttar Pradesh next year.
Congress, which has suffered a series of defeats after the 2014 poll debacle, is looking to make a strong comeback in the crucial UP polls. Incidentally, UP was the state that helped BJP bag a simple majority in the Lok Sabha polls.
According to reports, There is “mounting pressure” from party workers that the Gandhi scion canvass the length and breadth of the state and address hundreds of rallies across the state.
Congress party had earlier mentioned that Priyanka’s influential personality and leadership would benefit the party’s position in the politically influential state of UP.
Congress party had won 28 seats in Amethi in the 2012 assembly polls, however, the party lost terribly in the 2014 elections when it won only 2 seats.
