In a landmark initiative to open Rashtapati Bhavan to the people, President of India, Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated a smart model village pilot project on July 2, 2016 at President’s Estate.
Interacting with the sarpanches and village functionaries for the first time at President’s Estate, President Mukherjee said that since assuming office, he had laid great stress on opening of Rashtrapati Bhavan to the masses. While stellar work has been undertaken before, President Mukherjee felt that it was only today that he felt that Rashtrapati Bhavan had been truly opened to the public since the village representatives were present there.
Believing that the country can be transformed only if we empower our villages, women and youth, the President said, “Our progress and development can be achieved at the desirable speed only in partnership with these decision makers in the villages. We need to empower our women and youth.”
Mukherjee also expressed confidence that this initiative would not remain confined to these five villages but would spread to the entire country.
While complimentig and thanking all the stakeholders, President said “that this is a landmark initiative for us as we seek to replicate the experience in transforming the President’s Estate into a smart model township, in five selected villages in Haryana.”
