The 112-foot tall Shiva statue was unveiled on the occasion of Maha Shivratri in the evening by Narendra Modi. The statue has been funded by yoga guru Jaggi Vasudev led Isha Foundation. The statue is an engineering marvel besides being mammoth, it has certain other special attributes too. Among them are that the face of Shiva is made of steel; it took 2.5 years to design and some 8 months to build; it weighs a whopping 500 tonnes and is 112-foot tall! And it even has a world’s largest achievement to its credit – the face will be the largest of its kind on planet earth. After taking a tour of the spectacular area, PM Narendra Modi addressed the audience and highlighted not just the fact of the statue being such a magnificent engineering achievement, he also invoked the spiritual and religious nature of the entire exercise that will provide to the people of the country a magical modern space that will enrich the lives of the believers. Here is what Prime Minister Modi said after he unveiled the Shiva statue:
“‘Mahashivratri’ symbolises a union of divinity with a purpose of overcoming darkness and injustice.”
“India has given the gift of Yoga to the world, by practising Yoga a spirit of oneness is created. The essence of yoga has not changed. Yoga is the catalytic agent for transformation.”
He then said, “The place we have gathered today is going to be a source of inspiration for all. Rejecting an idea just because it is ancient, can be potentially harmful. It is essential to analyse and understand it and try to take it to the new generation in a manner in which they understand best.”

PM Modi talked about peace and the stress that is releaved with Yoga, “Today whole world wants peace, not only from wars and conflicts but peace from stress, and for that we have Yoga. If the body is a temple of the mind, yoga creates a beautiful temple. That is why I call yoga a passport to health assurance.”
