Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday provoked a walk out in the Upper House when he made a scathing ‘bathing in Raincoat’ jibe comment against former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. The PM accused the veteran economist of possessing a talent for getting away with a clean image even though numerous scams hit India during his tenure as PM in the UPA government.

In a reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister said, “Dr Manmohan Singh has played a significant role in the economic system of India. In the history of India it is rare to find a man who has had a such a long relationship with the economy of India, 35 years of 70 years of independence,” reports DNA.

The Prime Minister added that in Manmohan Singh’s 35 years of service, many scams occurred. However, Dr Manmohan Singh  was not tainted by any. Modi said, “We leaders have so much to study as so much happened at the time, but there was not a single blot on him. This is a special skill Dr Manmohan Singh excelled at and we should all learn this art of bathing in raincoat.’

There was mixed reaction to this comment made by the present PM on his predecessor. The Twitter world reacted. While for many it was hilarious moment to retweet and share the PM’s comment; on the other hand for many the PM has crossed all the limits of ‘decent behaviour’. Notably so, Dr Manmohan Singh will be remembered as a great finance minister than a Prime Minister.
