Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Hiraben passed away at a hospital in Ahmedabad on Friday. She was 100 years old. The hospital where she was admitted said that she passed away at 3:30 AM. PM Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday morning and reached the residence of of his brother Pankaj Modi at Raysan village on the outskirts of Gandhinagar, where the mortal remains of their mother Hiraba were kept. He sought her blessings and later carried her mortal remains. Later, PM Modi shouldered her mortal remains on way to the cremation ground for the last rites. Her mortal remains were consigned to flames by the prime minister and his brothers.
Following her demise, tributes poured in for PM Modi’s mother. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma, among others, expressed their condolences for the departed soul.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday morning virtually flagged off metro services on the Joka-Taratala route in Kolkata. The metro stations were decked up on the occasion.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled the death of PM Modi's mother. She tweeted, “Condolences to PM @narendramodi Ji on the passing away of his mother, Heeraben Modi. I pray that her soul rests in peace. In this hour of grief, I hope that he and his family members find strength.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be flagging off Vande Bharat Express connecting Howrah to New Jalpaiguri, in West Bengal, via video conferencing.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed grief and said in a tweet, “Dear Prime Minister @NarendraModi, We all know the emotional bond you had with your beloved mother Hiraba. The grief of losing one's mother is too hard to bear for anyone. I am deeply saddened and no words can describe how sorry I am for your loss.”
Delhi LG VK Saxena and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia condoled the passing away of PM Narendra Modi's mother. “Deeply saddened by demise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Hiraba. Wish Moksha to mother along with crores of countrymen in this hour of sorrow. I pray to God to give strength to the prime minister to bear the loss of his mother,” the LG said. Sisodia said the news of her death was very saddening.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences. In a tweet (in Hindi), she said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraba's hundred years of struggle is a symbol of Indian ideals. Shri Modi imbibed the spirit of '#matradevobhav' and the values of Hiraba in his life. I pray for the peace of the holy soul. My condolences to the family!”
