After Mayawati, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the latter’s statement against ‘gau rakshaks”. Talking to reporters today, Akhilesh said the PM spoke against the ‘gau rakshaks’ only after he realised the loss because of latter’s actions. “The question (action of gau rakshaks) came to the fore when he (PM) saw his loss,” Akhilesh said, adding that PM understood the problem late. “It came late, but he (PM) understood how much the country was losing.”
Earlier in the day, BSP chief Mayawati had also slammed the PM, saying his statement against ‘gau rakshaks’ was “politically motivated”. Mayawati said cow-vigilante groups are active only in states ruled by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Mayawati also questioned the PM as to why such statements are issued outside the Parliament where the Opposition has no scope of cross- questioning him. She said the PM has maintained a silence on the matter and not given any instruction as to how the anti-social elements need to be tackled. She said the government was sleeping when minorities were being targeted and has suddenly woken up due to the upcoming Assembly elections.
RJD chief had also taken a dig at PM Modi, tweeting the latter has understood that “cow gives milk, not votes.” Reacting to PM’s statements against cow vigilantes, Lalu claimed on Sunday that the PM has understood his statement. “This is the victory of truth over hypocrisy. Seems Modi Ji has understood my two-day old statement that cow gives milk, not votes,” Lalu tweeted.
