Following his address in Kerala, PM Modi opened NDA’s campaign in poll-bound Tamil Nadu on an aggressive note. In his address PM Modi called out the DMK government for what he claims are ‘historic levels of corruption in the state and scams in the name of welfare schemes.
The prime minister further alleged that the UPA government had been incredibly negligent of public safety and promoted crime in the region. In his address the prime minister also gave a long tally of centre’s budget commitments to the state of Tamil Nadu where he said that NDA had given Tamil Nadu 7 times more the railway budget than UPA. He also said that the centre had given the state Rs 3 Lakh crore over 11 years through budgetary provisions.
“Bharat Mata Ki Jai….,” PM Narendra Modi began his address by invoking a national sentiment with chants of Bharat Mata ki Jai and followed that by acknowledging the birth anniversary of notable leader and freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and connected the struggle of Tamil Nadu’s people for freedom and progress with Bose’s journey.
After addressing a huge rally in Kerala – where he flagged off three new Amrit Bharat Express trains, PM Modi landed in Chennai to address the first political rally of the NDA at Maduranthakam, ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections due in another 2-3 months.
In a major step towards modernising rail travel for the common citizen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday on the Nagercoil–Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram–Tambaram and Thiruvananthapuram–Charlapalli routes. He also flagged off a new passenger train service between Thrissur and Guruvayur.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and flagged off several development projects in Thiruvananthapuram. He also launched the PM SVANidhi Credit Card and disbursed PM SVANidhi loans to one lakh beneficiaries during the event.
PM flags off three Amrit Bharat Express, one passenger train
In a statement, M. Senthamil Selvan, Chief Public Relations Officer, Southern Railway, said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala on Friday, 23rd January 2026. In Southern Railway, the Prime Minister will flag off 3 Amrit Bharat Express Trains and a passenger train. The main function will be held at Putharikandam Grounds in Thiruvananthapuram on 23rd January 2026.”
Kerala received its first set of Amrit Bharat Express trains with the launch of the Thiruvananthapuram Central–Tambaram, Thiruvananthapuram North–Charlapalli and Nagercoil Junction–Mangaluru Junction services. In addition, a new passenger train is introduced between Thrissur and Guruvayur. All four trains will be operated and maintained by the Southern Railway zone.
New services to improve inter-State and regional connectivity
The Thiruvananthapuram Central–Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express will connect Kerala’s capital with key industrial, educational and medical hubs in Tamil Nadu, passing through major stations such as Tirunelveli, Madurai and Tiruchchirappalli. The Thiruvananthapuram–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express will provide a vital rail link across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, serving several important cities en route.
Meanwhile, the Nagercoil–Mangaluru Junction Amrit Bharat Express will connect Tamil Nadu with coastal Karnataka through Kerala, benefiting passengers travelling along the western coastal belt. The Guruvayur–Thrissur passenger train will offer direct and affordable connectivity between a major pilgrimage centre and Thrissur, catering to daily commuters, students and devotees.
The Amrit Bharat Express trains are designed to bridge the gap between conventional mail and express services and premium trains by offering improved amenities, enhanced safety features and better ride comfort at economical fares, reinforcing inclusive growth through accessible rail travel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the PM SVANidhi Credit Card, marking a significant step in promoting financial inclusion for street vendors. The UPI-linked, interest-free revolving credit facility is designed to provide instant liquidity, encourage digital transactions, and help beneficiaries build formal credit histories.
During the event, the Prime Minister also announced the disbursement of PM SVANidhi loans to 1 lakh beneficiaries, including street vendors from Kerala. Since its launch in 2020, the PM SVANidhi scheme has provided first-time access to formal credit for many and has played a crucial role in improving livelihoods and reducing poverty among urban informal workers.
