The BJP led NDA government at the Centre is under a lot pressure given the steep kike in the fuel price. Following this criticism, the BJP has said that the government could take steps to ease the burden on the common man. BJP general secretary Anil Jain said that the government will take right decision at right time. Indian Express quoting Anil Jain said, ”The government is taking feedback from public, media and the experts. The government is sensitive and will take the right decision at the right time.”

According to BJP sources, the government will take actions and will “look into what can be done”. Significant steps will be taken by the government incase the matter is not resolved soon. A senior party leader said that options are being considered by the government. Justifying why the government has not yet taken any step regarding the matter the leader said that the prices cushions the state finances as they are also depending on taxes on petroleum products at a time they are shifting to a new tax regime, GST. “States run with this money,” he said.

This is significant since it comes after Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan ruled out government’s interference in the increase in fuel prices. Pradhan had said dynamic fuel pricing mechanism was transperant model for consumers and the government will not be able to change it immediately.
