Avinash Rai Khanna, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday said that the present government in the state is committed to working towards the safety and security of the people in the valley.
Khanna expressed his ire over today’s incident of waving of Pakistani and ISIS flags in Srinagar during the protest over the house arrest of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
“Just as maintaining law and order is the duty of the state government, maintaining the safety and security of the people is equally an important responsibility of the state government and the state government is doing that. Such incidents will not be tolerated,” Khanna told ANI here.
“I think a lot of people are not able to digest the fact that an alliance between the BJP and the PDP has taken place in Jammu and Kashmir. But the way people in the state have given us the mandate, we hope to fulfill their expectations. The government is committed to working towards this,” he added.
Geelani and several other separatist leaders have been put under house arrest in the city.
According to reports, Geelani was not allowed to offer prayers in a mosque on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr as he remained under house arrest since his return from New Delhi on April 15.
