In wake of tragic derailment of Patna-Indore Express, Samajwadi Party has decided to call-off the annual Saifai Mahotsav celebrated at the occassion of party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s birthday. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, after inaugurating the Lucknow-Agra Express way, announced that the party has decided not to celebrate Netaji’s birthday this year. “Party and Netaji have decided not to celebrate his (Mulayam Singh Yadav’s) birthday today because a big tragedu has happened in the state,” Akhilesh Yadav said.
In a tragic incident, 14 coaches of Patna-Indore Express had derailed in wee hours of Sunday. The accident has so far claimed over 140 lives, while more than 140 people have been injured. The accident, touted as the worst railway-tragedy in seven years, took place near Pukhrayan town of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district. An investigation has been launched, while ex-gratis have been announced by the state and the central governments.
Meanwhile, the driver of the train on Sunday denied to take responsibility of the accident. He said that he is still in shock and not in a condition to give any statement. Speaking in the Parliament today, Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu promised to take “strictest possible action” against the guilty. He announced a thorough investigation aided by latest technical and forensic analysis into the train accident.
