In what could be seen as a boost for the Congress party ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel on Tuesday joined the party. Hardik Patel showered praise on Rahul Gandhi, saying the Congress chief is honest and does not believe in working like a dictator.

The 25-year-old Patidar leader joined the Congress at a rally in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

“People ask me why I chose the Congress and Rahul Gandhi. I chose Rahul Gandhi because he is honest. He does not believe in working like a dictator,” PTI quoted Patel as saying.

Justifying his decision to enter active politics ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Patel said he could now work for the six crore people of Gujarat in a better way.

Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Patel said when the Congress decided to postpone its rally, earlier scheduled for February 28, following the terror attack in Pulwama last month, the PM was busy addressing gatherings across the country.

Meanwhile, the Congress on Tuesday in its Working Committee (CWC) alleged that PM Modi was “cynically exploiting” the issue of national security to divert attention from his “colossal failures” and “persistent falsehoods”.

The strong attack on the prime minister came in a party resolution passed at the CWC which was chaired by party president Rahul Gandhi and attended by all senior leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Ahmed Patel, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

“Congress party expresses its strong disappointment that the prime minister is cynically exploiting the issue of national security, on which we are all united, to divert attention from his colossal failures, bogus claims and persistent falsehoods,” the resolution passed by the CWC said.
