Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar met the family of Subedar Major (Retd) Fateh Singh, a former Commonwealth champion shooter who was martyred while fighting the terrorists at the Pathankot Air Force Station base, here on Tuesday.
The foremost big bore rifle (300m) shooter-turned-coach had won gold and silver in the first Commonwealth Shooting Championships in New Delhi in 1995.
Singh, who retired as a Subedar Major from the Dogra regiment in 2009, joined the Defence Service Corps (DSC) and was initially posted at the Army War College in Mhow. He was posted to Pathankot two years ago.
Meanwhile, the combing operations are still underway at the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot.
The operation against the terrorists at the air base entered its fourth day today as security forces continue to carry out combing operations to smoke out any remaining terrorist.
Security forces declared yesterday that the fifth terrorist was killed and the building in which they were hiding was also bombarded.
