Shri Rahul Gandhi, Member of Lok Sabha representing the Wayanad Parliamentary Constituency of Kerala, stands disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction, i.e., 23 March, 2023 in terms of the provisions of Article 102(1)(e) of the Constitution of India read with Section 8 of the Representation of People Act, 1951,” a notification issued by Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General of the Lok Sabha, dated March 24 read.
Earlier today, the Finance Bill 2023 was cleared by the Lok Sabha on Friday amid continuous sloganeering by members of the Opposition demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Adnai-Hindenburg row. The Finance Bill was cleared with 45 amendments moved by the government through a voice vote. On Thursday, the Lok Sabha cleared the Demands for Grants and Appropriation Bill moved by the Finance Minister. The passage of the Demand for Grants authorises the expenditure of about Rs 45 lakh crore for FY 2023-24. All members of the government, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi were present in the House at the time.
