The Eluga Tapp comes with top-end features but with an affordable price tag
The Indian market is saturated with mid-range Android mobile phones. But that has not deterred Japan’s Panasonic from making a concerted effort to make its presence felt in the hyper competitive market. It is keen to expand its presence in the tier II and tier III cities. Recently, the company added another device to its mobile phone range; this is the 4G VoLTE smartphone Eluga Tapp with a front fingerprint scanner. It comes with a stylish HD IPS 5 inch screen and carries a price tag of R8,990. We check out some of its key features and performance.
The Eluga Tapp feels reasonably solid in the hand. It provides a premium look complementing the brand Panasonic. The device is available in two colours— Champagne Gold and Silver Grey. If you haven’t noticed, much of the time our personal information and details are protected by just the few hastily thought-out numbers in our passwords which we store in our phone. Here, the Eluga Tapp is trying to make a difference; it is fortified with a lot of security features.
Take for instance, the front fingerprint scanner. This feature allows you to unlock your phone quickly and securely, adding essential security to your data. The Eluga Tapp gives users the flexibility to view content comfortably in any work or leisure scenario, and particularly in the confined areas often encountered during commuting or business travel. The One touch security ensures that only you can access the data on your phone. The scanner is able to recognise your fingers and thumbs in a split second, topped with Android for Work integration.
Yes, the phone comes with an add-on security feature ‘Android for Work’ that allows the user to segregate the business apps from personal apps and also protects user’s personal data. Android for Work features what’s known as a work profile on a device—a segregated, managed environment. To prevent data leakage, apps in the work profile can’t communicate with users’ personal apps, and corporate accounts.
The smartphone supports 4G VoLTE and features a stylish 5 inch full-HD (12.7 cm) IPS display and is powered by Quad-core processor clocked at 1.25 GHz coupled with 2 GB of RAM. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0. There is 16 GB of inbuilt storage and the handset supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 32 GB).
Furthermore, the phone sports an 8 MP rear camera with auto focus for clear pictures and a 5 MP front camera for selfie addicts. The phone weighs in at 138 gm and is quite light weight. The Eluga Tapp holds a powerful battery capacity of 2800mAh ensuring longer operation, where Lithium-Polymer gel based battery cells are safer, reliable and provide longer durability. The phone offers a decent set of connectivity features including GPS, Wi-Fi and Dual SIM (4G/3G+2G) maximising your connectivity.

Performance-wise, the Eluga Tapp is a pretty nifty device that is powerful and versatile. I had no issues with making calls. Voices were clear and crisp. Internet browsing is fast and there is no lag whatsoever while switching between apps. The phone’s 8 megapixel main camera lets you capture any moment in striking quality. This is supported by a 5 MP front camera, so you are always equipped for the perfect snap, whether it’s a close-up selfie or distant landscape shot.
Overall, the Eluga Tapp from Panasonic performs in a splendid manner and it has long battery life too. Above all, this mobile phone’s R8,990 price does seem like a steel.
