Pampore attack: The second day of the gunbattle with the two terrorists holed up inside a government building on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has seen the Indian security forces change tactics and go in for the kill, in an effort to end the stand-off quickly. The forces are launching grenades at the building and the entire structure is smoking and shaking.
The idea is, since the terrorists are not surrendering, to kill them quickly and then overrun the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) building. Sanitisation of the area is expected to be carried out too as the terrorists may have placed booby-traps to maim or kill as many people as they can.
The terrorists have been exchanging fire with the security forces non-stop now and the Indian armed forces have given up on their ever surrendering. Also, the forces don’t want to take any casualties in the exchange, aside from one jawan who has been injured.
An official revealed today that the “Security forces have launched a fresh offensive to flush-out the militants.”
On Monday some three militants (the number is still not clear), but 2 militants entered the EDI complex in the early hours and attracted the attention of the security forces by starting a fire. This attracted the attention of the armed forces. As they approached they were fired upon and 1 jawan was injured.
However, the exchange of fire did not produce any result for the armed forces as they were using mortar shells, and light machine guns in an attempt to get them out of the building. In fact, this is not the first time that the EDI building has become the centre of attention. Militants had used it in February.
However, the casualties were heavy in that operation as 5 securitymen were killed. Also shot dead were 3 militants.
