The murder of Pallavi Purkayastha, a 25-year-old lawyer, in her apartment in a posh South Mumbai building had raised a national debate over the safety of women, last year. The security guard, Sajjan Ahmad Moghul who murdered Pallavi, who had jumped parole, has finally been arrested, as per ANI. Earlier, he was charged with murder, trespassing, robbery and molestation. As per an NDTV report, a local court had then sentenced Sajjad to life imprisonment in 2014. The accused allegedly killed Pallavi on August 9, 2012, when she resisted his advances. Pallavi was murdered in her 16th-floor apartment in Wadala’s Himalayan Heights. Her body was found by her live-in partner Avik Sengupta.
As per an Indian Express report, Moghul was found guilty by the court under the Sections 302 (murder), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 449 (house-trespass in order to commit an offence punishable with death) of the Indian Penal Code.
