Pakistan violates ceasefire in J&K’s Poonch

An incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan has been reported along the LOC in Jammu & Kashmir's Poonch district.

An incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan has been reported along the LOC in Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch district. As per the reports, the firing started around 5.40 pm this evening. No casualties have been reported in incident. The incident took place in  Saujiyan area of Poonch district. An official said that both the sides exchanged heavy mortar and gunfire in Saujiyan sector for around eight minutes. Thursday’s incident comes after 22 days. Earlier, Pakistan had targeted Indian positions Shahpur area on September 6. The Indian troops were also retaliating. However, there has been no reports of any loss or damage on the Indian part.

The incident comes amid rising tensions at the LoC following the Uri terror attack that left 19 Indian soldiers martyred.India has since upped the offensive against Pakistan. On Tuesday, India announced it will not attend the 19th SAARC summit in Islamabad in November, a decision which was followed by Bhutan and Bangladesh.  PM Modi has also called for a meeting to decide upon the ‘Most Favoured Nation’ status accorded to Pakistan in 1996. The meeting, which will be attended by top officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and Commerce Ministry, on September 29.
