Pakistan will continue supporting separatist elements in Jammu and Kashmir, according Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. On Saturday, Dawn reported Bajwa as saying in an Inter-Service Public Relations statement that Pakistan “will continue its support for the right to self-determination for ‘our Kashmiri brothers'” in Kashmir. According to the report, Bajwa also lauded  people of Kashmir, on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), for showing “determination” against India. General Bajwa made these remarks during his visit to Pakistan Army’s forward positions along the LoC in Muzaffarabad Sector.

General Bajwa’s statement comes amidst report of increased number of infiltration of terrorists into Indian territory from the Pakistani side. Indian soldiers have been, however, effectively neutralising the infiltration in the Valley.

Bajwa’s statement comes two days after his Indian counterpart General Bipin Rawat said that India was fully ready for simultaneous two-and-a-half front war (China, Pakistan and he also included in his statement internal security requirements). The Indian Army chief had also said that Pakistan was spreading lies about the situation on the ground. “Pakistan generated social media propaganda is spreading disinformation among youth of Kashmir.” Sending a positive message of the situation getting better, Rawat said, adding, “Condition in Kashmir will improve soon.”

On Saturday, General Rawat once again said, youth in the state are being misguided by the social media platforms. “Youth in Kashmir are being instigated by a misinformation campaign on social media,” Rawat was quoted as saying by ANI.

The Indian Army chief also talked about the importance of adding women officers in the military by saying they can help counter many tricky situations. “Humen rank and file mein, jawanon aur sardar sahebaan hote hai, uss rank mein bhi ladies ki zaroorat hai (We have jawans and sahebaans in the rank and file but also need ladies),” he said.
