Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed history-drama Padmavat has hit yet another road block. After Rajasthan government banning the movie, Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur has also said that the movie is most likely not to be released in the state. He said,”I don’t want to say much. We will discuss what to do. The film, indeed, is a controversial one. I respect art but when it comes to people’s sentiments getting hurt, it must be thought about and discussed.” Earlier in the day, Raje had said that the movie will not be screened in Rajasthan. “The movie will not be screened in any cinema hall in the state. Rani Padmini’s sacrifice is associated with honour, esteem and pride of the state, so Rani Padmini is not merely a history chapter for us, but is our self-esteem. We will not allow her dignity to be hurt howsoever,” the CM said in a statement.

Stating that the decision was taken to “respect the emotions of public in the state”, Raje instructed Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria to ensure that the film is not screened in the state. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh starrer will release on January 25.

Earlier, on December 30, 2017, dismissing the reports suggesting that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has suggested 26 cuts in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’, CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi, said that the board has only demanded for five modifications in the movie, including that the film’s title should be changed to “Padmavat”. The board has also suggested modifications in disclaimers, pertinently adding one regarding not glorifying the practice of “Sati” and also relevant changes in the song ‘Ghoomar’ to befit the character portrayed, he said. The original name of the film was ‘Padmavati’.

Reacting to the development, founder-patron of Rajput Karni Sena Lokendra Singh Kalvi said a lot of clarifications are yet to come on the issues and it will be too early to comment. He, however, said his stand is “very clear, which is known to everyone”.
